Illustration generated by Turbo Truth.

The Aprilia SXR GT 175 replaces the SXR 160 with mechanical and feature upgrades, new paint and graphics. It keeps the same maxi-scooter styling and touring stance. At Rs 1.30 lakh (starting), it is the most affordable of the group that includes the Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and Honda ADV160.

Price and variants

The SXR GT 175 starts at Rs 1.30 lakh. The Hero Xoom 160 is listed at Rs 1.45 lakh and the Yamaha Aerox 155 at Rs 1.46 lakh-1.50 lakh. The Honda ADV160 is the most expensive at Rs 1.70 lakh. All prices are listed as printed.

Engine and performance

The SXR GT 175 has the largest displacement in the group but not the highest power or torque. It makes 13.3 hp and 14.14 Nm, the lowest power of the four and the second-best torque. The engine is air-cooled, while the other three are liquid-cooled. The Honda ADV160 leads with 16.3 hp and 14.9 Nm. The Aerox 155 makes 15 hp and 13.9 Nm, and the Xoom 160 makes 14.8 hp and 14 Nm. On power-to-weight, the Aerox 155 is at 119.05 hp/ton and the ADV160 at 118.98 hp/ton. The Xoom 160 is at 104.23 hp/ton and the SXR GT 175 at 100.76 hp/ton.

Size, brakes and suspension

The SXR GT 175 weighs 132 kg, with 170 mm ground clearance and an 800 mm seat. The ADV160 weighs 137 kg with 175 mm clearance. The Aerox 155 is the lightest at 126 kg with 145 mm clearance and a 790 mm seat. The Xoom 160 weighs 142 kg with 155 mm clearance and a 787 mm seat. All four use a CVT and single-channel ABS as standard. The SXR GT 175, Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 have a disc front and drum rear brake, while the ADV160 has discs at both ends. The SXR GT 175 has telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock; the other three use telescopic forks and twin rear shocks.

Features

  • TFT display on the SXR GT 175 and ADV160; LCD screens on the Xoom 160 and Aerox 155, with call, SMS and turn-by-turn navigation access
  • Keyless system on all four, though the Aerox offers it only on its top-spec S variant
  • Traction control on the ADV160 and Aerox 155
  • Auto stop/start and silent starting on the Xoom 160, ADV160 and Aerox 155
  • E85 compatibility on the ADV160 alone
  • Front storage, USB charging port and LED lighting on all four

What it means for buyers

The SXR GT 175 is the cheapest of the four and the only one with a monoshock at the rear, but it gives up power to every rival. Buyers who want the most performance and the longest equipment list will look at the ADV160, at Rs 1.70 lakh. The Aerox 155 and Xoom 160 sit in between on price.
