BMW Motorrad files India design patent for self-balancing electric two-wheeler

Illustration generated by Turbo Truth.

BMW Motorrad is developing a self-balancing electric two-wheeler based on the BMW Vision CE concept shown in 2025. A design patent has now been filed in India, and the vehicle has been patented in other markets too. No launch timeline has been announced.

How it works

The scooter balances itself and does not need a stand to stay upright when stopped, so riders do not have to put their feet down. A stand is still included for long parking, when the balancing system switches off to save battery.

Rider protection

The design is meant to remove the need for a helmet, gloves or special clothing. For that, BMW has given it a tubular steel front frame, an all-around cage, side elements protecting hips and shoulders, foam padding and a four-point seatbelt.

What we do not know yet

Specifications have not been revealed, and there is no word on price or on whether the vehicle will be sold in India. A design patent shows how a vehicle may look, not that it is coming to showrooms.

What it means for buyers

Nothing to book or wait for yet. For now this is a signal of where BMW Motorrad wants to take electric two-wheelers: a scooter that stays upright by itself and protects the rider like a small car. We will update this story when BMW shares specifications or a launch plan.
