Chery Tiggo 4 India Patent Could Mean A New SUV Is Coming

Chery has added three more vehicle designs to its India patent filings: the Tiggo 4, Tiggo Pup pickup and Exeed EX7 REEV. With Chery working with JSW Motors, these patents are worth watching for Indian buyers, although a patent by itself does not confirm that any of these vehicles will launch here.

Chery Tiggo 4 gets a new design

The new Tiggo 4 appears to be an upcoming version rather than the current model sold in several international markets. The design gets split headlights with the main lamps positioned lower, along with a larger grille, while the side and rear retain similarities to the existing SUV.

The current Tiggo 4 is 4,330 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,660 mm tall, with a 2,610 mm wheelbase. The new version is described with a twin-screen dashboard, dual-zone AC, leather seats, a powered driver's seat and a 430-litre boot. Its powertrain options include a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a strong hybrid with a 1.83 kWh battery.

What is known about Tiggo Pup?

The Tiggo Pup is a compact monocoque pickup, but Chery has not yet confirmed production or publicly shown a physical vehicle. The patent design shows a short rear bed rather than the longer cargo area associated with pickups such as the Toyota Hilux.

Exeed EX7 REEV uses a range extender

The Exeed EX7 REEV is another interesting filing because its petrol engine works only as a range extender and does not directly drive the wheels. The vehicle uses a 41.16 kWh battery and is planned with both 2WD and 4WD configurations.

The EX7 REEV also has a 30-inch infotainment display, 23-speaker audio system and Level 2 ADAS with LiDAR. For Indian buyers, the bigger question is whether JSW and Chery decide to turn these patents into actual products rather than simply protecting the designs.
