Tesla Model Y L gets faster 0-100kph, price stays Rs 61.99 lakh

Tesla has quietly upgraded the powertrain of the Model Y L sold in India, shaving half a second off its 0-100kph time. The change applies to every Model Y L delivered on or after 1 October 2026, while the price and looks stay the same. Existing owners won’t see the update, but new buyers get a quicker EV.
Performance numbers that matter
The dual‑motor setup now delivers an estimated 514 hp and 590 Nm, letting the SUV hit 100 kph in 4.5 seconds according to Tesla’s claim. That is 0.5 second quicker than the earlier version, though the top speed remains capped at 201 kph. The official WLTP range figure is unchanged at 681 kilometres, so real‑world mileage will still depend on speed, weather and driving style.
Charging and range details
Tesla says the 88 kWh NMC pack can add up to 288 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes when plugged into a Supercharger. The vehicle accepts DC fast charging at up to 250 kW and AC charging at up to 11 kW. These numbers are the same as before; only the acceleration tweak changed.
- 20 Supercharger stalls already live across India
- 28 Destination Chargers operational in major cities
- Three more Supercharger sites planned before the end of 2026
- Charging speed unchanged despite the power bump
- Range per charge still quoted at 681 km WLTP
How it stacks up against rivals
In the premium EV space the Model Y L now sits close to the BMW iX1 LWB and the BYD Sealion 7 on straight‑line speed. Those rivals quote similar 0‑100kph times in the low‑five‑second band, so the Tesla gains a slight edge. Price wise, the Model Y L remains at Rs 61.99 lakh ex‑showroom, which is comparable to the iX1 LWB’s entry tag and slightly under the Sealion 7’s asking price in most metros.
Have you noticed any difference in acceleration after the October update, or are you waiting to see real‑world range reports before deciding?
