Tata car sales August 2026 cross 65,000 as EVs surge

Tata Motors crossed 65,000 domestic passenger vehicle sales in August 2026, its strongest monthly wholesale number of FY2026-27 so far. For buyers, the bigger point is the jump in EV volumes, while Tata's CNG, petrol and diesel options continue to form part of the same portfolio.

Tata crosses 65,000 domestic sales

Tata recorded 65,253 domestic passenger vehicle wholesales in August, against 41,001 units in August 2025. That is a 59.15% year-on-year increase, while sales were also 2,642 units higher than July's 62,611 units.

Its Vahan passenger vehicle market share reached 14.7% during the month. The Punch also posted its highest-ever domestic monthly sales, although Tata has not provided the model's exact August volume.

EV sales reach 16,549 units

Tata's total EV sales, including international business, reached 16,549 units in August. That compares with 8,540 units a year earlier, an increase of 93.78% and the first time its monthly EV volume crossed 16,500 units.

The EV share is also notable. Tata's EV Vahan market share reached 43.74%, meaning the brand accounted for more than four in ten EV registrations during the month. Punch EV also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales, without an individual figure being disclosed.

CNG demand remains part of Tata's mix

The August performance was not limited to electric cars. Tata highlighted strong demand for its CNG range, while its passenger vehicle line-up continues to cover petrol, diesel, CNG and electric powertrains.

Commercial vehicle sales rise 49%

Tata's commercial vehicle business also had a strong August, with total CV sales reaching 44,411 units compared with 29,863 units last year. Domestic CV sales were 36,619 units, while international CV sales rose to 7,792 units.

Within domestic CVs, HCV trucks reached 10,612 units, ILMCV trucks 6,859 units, passenger carriers 4,701 units, and SCV cargo and pickups 14,447 units. The figures suggest the growth was spread across several commercial vehicle categories rather than coming from just one area.
