Volvo XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrid facelifts revealed globally

Volvo has globally revealed refreshed plug-in hybrid variants for the international market, bringing larger batteries and improved electric ranges to both models just days after updating its smaller 40 Series. While these specific plug-in versions are not currently sold in India where local buyers get the mild-hybrid setup, these updates could eventually influence the standard models available here.

Larger battery pack and electric range improvements

The plug-in hybrid variants of both models have replaced their older 19kWh battery units with a substantially larger 41.2kWh pack. This upgrade significantly boosts their electric-only capabilities under international testing standards.

Exterior and interior updates for the XC60

Between the two SUVs, the XC60 receives a more thorough cosmetic refresh featuring a redesigned front fascia with updated T-shaped LED daytime running lamps, a new grille, and revised bumpers. It also gains fresh alloy wheel options ranging from 18 to 22 inches and a cleaner rear bumper design. Inside, the dashboard has been slightly reworked to better integrate the 11.2-inch infotainment screen, which now runs the newer Car UX software alongside an upgraded driver assistance system suite.

Changes for the XC90 plug-in hybrid

The larger XC90 plug-in hybrid maintains its familiar exterior design and feature list without the visual redesign given to its smaller sibling. However, it does adopt the updated 11.2-inch infotainment screen running Volvo's newer Car UX software.

What this means for Indian buyers

Volvo currently sells the XC60 and XC90 in India with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid 48V setup producing 250hp and 360Nm, with ex-showroom prices currently sitting at Rs 70.90 lakh and Rs 98.80 lakh respectively. While the plug-in hybrid models described here are not offered locally, any software, infotainment, and safety tech updates could eventually filter down to the Indian versions if Volvo decides to introduce them.
