Anyone tracking the Kia Sonet in India will want to look at the latest test mules spotted overseas showing the next generation model. The upcoming compact SUV features sharp styling updates and a hybrid powertrain that the company plans to introduce down the road. Current buyers should weigh these future updates against the model that is already on sale today.
What changes on the exterior
The new generation Sonet follows the Opposites United design language with sharper geometric shapes and clean surfaces. Spied test vehicles reveal a revised C pillar, angular window frames, and sporty alloy wheel options.
- Taller and squarer front grille design
- Interconnected LED tail lamps at the rear
- Distinctive Star Map LED DRL strips
- Squared wheel arches with sporty dual tone ORVMS
Expected cabin and safety tech
Inside the cabin, the upcoming model is expected to feature a curved panoramic display with dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation. Sustainable materials like bio PU leatherette and recycled fabrics will likely be used. Safety equipment is expected to be upgraded to full Level 2 ADAS alongside the transition to Kia's newer K1 platform.
Hybrid powertrain plans for 2029
While the current model runs on existing petrol and diesel engines, a hybrid option is planned to be introduced with the Sonet later in the decade. This hybrid setup is expected to generate 140 PS of combined power. Similar hybrid options are also heading to the Seltos and Carens to expand powertrain choices for buyers.
