Mercedes-Maybach S-Class India Launch Set For October 5

Mercedes-Maybach is bringing the facelifted S-Class to India on October 5, just over six months after its global reveal. For buyers looking at the ultra-luxury sedan segment, the update brings fresh styling, more cabin technology, additional personalisation and revised powertrain options.

Maybach S-Class exterior changes

The Maybach S-Class gets a 20 percent larger illuminated grille with its signature vertical slats, an illuminated Mercedes star on the bonnet and an illuminated Maybach wordmark. The headlights are larger and get three-pointed-star DRLs, while the lower bumper air dams feature tiny Maybach logos.

The sedan remains 180mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class. New forged alloy wheels are available in 20- and 21-inch sizes, with multi-spoke designs and a counterweighted Mercedes logo. The D-pillar Maybach badge is also illuminated.

Maybach S-Class cabin gets more choice

Inside, the Maybach gets the S-Class-style Superscreen setup with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.4-inch central touchscreen and 12.3-inch passenger display. A new electronic and electrical architecture uses four supercomputers for the car's screens, safety systems and driving functions.

Personalisation also expands, including more Manufaktur exterior colours, two-tone paint combinations and additional leather choices. A leather-free vegan upholstery option is being offered for the first time on a Maybach.

Rear seat and powertrain updates

Rear passengers get seats that recline up to 43 degrees, compared with 38 degrees in the standard S-Class. They are heated, ventilated and massaging, while two smartphone-style remotes replace the earlier tablet controller.

Internationally, the S 580 uses an upgraded 4.0-litre V8 producing 537hp and 750Nm. The S 580e combines a 3.0-litre inline-six with a 163hp electric motor and 22kWh battery, making 585hp and 750Nm with up to 98km of electric-only range. India-bound powertrain details are not confirmed yet, although a 612hp and 850Nm V8 version is expected if the S 580 specification comes here.

The currently sold Mercedes-Maybach S 580 costs Rs 2.87 crore ex-showroom before options, while the facelift is expected to cost more because of its additional equipment and updates. The exact India-spec powertrain and final pricing should be clearer around the launch.
