Tata’s passenger vehicle division posted a 35% jump in sales during the first year after splitting from its commercial vehicle arm. Domestic volumes rose to 7.44 lakh units between October 2025 and September 2026, outpacing the industry’s roughly 22% growth. The gain pushed Tata’s market share to 14.1%, making it the country’s second‑largest carmaker in that period.
Nexon and Punch drive Tata sales
The Nexon and Punch together supplied about two‑thirds of Tata’s domestic sales, with the Nexon moving 2.38 lakh units and the Punch 2.33 lakh units.
Even with supply constraints, the Sierra crossed 60,000 units from January to September 2026. This shows strong demand even when production was still ramping up.
EV and CNG share of Tata volumes
Electric and CNG models made up a large part of Tata’s mix, accounting for 44% of total volumes over the year and rising to 51% in the July‑September quarter.
Fully electric sales jumped 84% to 1.3 lakh units, giving Tata a 42% share of India’s EV market.
- EV sales up 84% to 1.3 lakh units
- CNG sales up 31% to over 2.03 lakh units
- EVs and CNG together 44% of annual volumes
- EV share of India market at 42%
Service network expansion plans
Tata plans to grow its service footprint faster than its showrooms, aiming for three times more workshops while doubling sales outlets.
The company says it has already fixed 26 of the 30 service‑problem areas it identified and is working on spare‑part availability.
Future product pipeline and targets
Tata is targeting over 12 lakh annual sales by FY31 and a 20% share of the passenger vehicle market.
To get there it will launch six new nameplates, including the Avinya, and carry out more than 20 product refreshes over the next few years.
Have you noticed any change in Tata’s service or waiting times lately?
