BMW i5 LWB price and range: Is ₹79.6 lakh worth it?

BMW i5 LWB has arrived in India at ₹79.6 lakh ex-showroom, putting this electric sedan only ₹3 lakh above the petrol 530Li. For buyers considering a luxury EV this month, the interesting part is that BMW has focused on rear-seat space without turning the car into a chauffeur-only sedan.

The i5 LWB is available in India in the eDrive35L M Sport trim. It is assembled locally, which helps explain the pricing. Published on-road figures are ₹83.63 lakh in Mumbai and ₹83.65 lakh in Hyderabad, so the final buying cost is quite different from the ₹79.6 lakh headline price.

BMW has also offered a First Edition limited to 99 units, with the same ₹79.6 lakh ex-showroom price. There are four main exterior colour choices listed, including Mineral White metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Phytonic Blue metallic and Oxide Grey metallic.

The i5 LWB uses an 81.6 kWh battery, with a claimed range of 669 km per charge. Charging support is rated at 160 kW DC and 11 kW AC, while the electric motor produces 268 bhp and 410 Nm.

For buyers worried about performance, the claimed 0-100 km/h time is 6.7 seconds. Published testing also recorded a sub-6.5-second run in Boost Mode, although that should not be treated as an owner-tested figure.

Rear seat space is the main reason to look at it

The 3,105 mm wheelbase gives the i5 LWB plenty of rear-seat room. Quad-zone climate control, rear AC vents, a glass-roof sunshade control, wireless charging and rear entertainment screens are among the features available for passengers.

There are compromises. The rear transmission tunnel makes the centre seat less comfortable, while features such as powered rear recline, ventilated rear seats and powered rear sunshades are missing. The boot also loses some practicality because the spare wheel takes up space.
