Best selling cars in India H1 2026 — what the first six months actually showed

The first half of 2026 closed with double-digit growth for the market overall, led by Tata, Maruti and Mahindra. The Dzire finished as the single best-selling model, with Maruti dominating the upper half of the table and Tata and Kia both posting solid gains.

Why sales rankings are worth a glance even if you are not interested in league tables:

- High-volume models have deeper service networks and better parts availability, which shows up years later in running costs rather than on day one. - Resale is steadier on cars that sold in numbers, simply because there are more buyers who recognise them. - Very low-volume models are not automatically bad, but you should expect longer waits for parts and fewer independent garages willing to touch them.

What a sales chart cannot tell you is what ownership is actually like — a car can sell extremely well and still generate a lot of complaints about service. That is the gap this forum exists to fill.
