FASTag OneTag system lets users switch banks without new sticker

FASTag users in India will be able to switch their FASTag service provider without replacing the physical RFID sticker on their vehicle. The FASTag OneTag system is designed to bring portability to electronic toll collection, allowing users to change the bank managing their FASTag account while retaining the existing tag.

What changes with FASTag OneTag

Under the earlier system, changing banks could mean closing the existing FASTag arrangement and obtaining another physical tag. OneTag changes that process by allowing vehicle owners to retain the same physical FASTag sticker while moving to another participating issuer.

The key benefit is simple: switching the bank handling the FASTag account no longer requires motorists to replace the tag fixed to the windshield. The portability system is intended to make changing providers easier for vehicle owners.

How the portability process works

The migration facility will be made available through the Rajmargyatra mobile application. Users will have to complete the required verification and onboarding before moving their FASTag account to another participating issuer.

The process includes:

• Opening the FASTag portability option through Rajmargyatra
• Completing the required eligibility and security verification
• Selecting a participating FASTag issuer
• Providing consent and completing the onboarding process

What happens to the existing FASTag

The OneTag system is designed around portability rather than replacing the physical tag. That means the vehicle owner can continue using the existing sticker while the issuer managing the account changes.

The change also avoids making motorists go through the physical replacement process simply because they want to move their FASTag relationship to another bank. Toll collection continues through the existing FASTag ecosystem.
