August 2026 SUV sales data for the 4.2 to 4.5 metre segment in India
The 4.2 to 4.5 metre SUV segment in India registered 79,691 units in August 2026, marking a 66.87 percent growth over the 47,756 units sold in the same month last year. While the annual numbers show strong expansion driven by new model entries, monthly sales saw a slight decline of 2.81 percent compared to July 2026.
Creta leadership and top models
Hyundai Creta continued to lead the segment with 16,288 units, capturing a 20.44 percent market share despite increased competition. Maruti Victoris secured second place with 12,978 units, while Kia Seltos recorded 11,716 units to round out the top three.
New entrants and their market share
Seven new SUVs introduced over the last 12 months contributed 21,638 units, representing 27.15 percent of the total volume in August 2026. Models like the Tata Sierra and Maruti Victoris drove the majority of these new additions, accounting for nearly 68 percent of the net year-on-year volume increase.

Performance of other established entries
Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara remained strong contributors with 8,234 and 7,808 units respectively, though both experienced a slight dip compared to July. Mahindra Thar Roxx registered 5,817 units, while the Honda Elevate reported 1,326 units ahead of its upcoming facelift.
