Volkswagen Group is planning a major cost reduction effort that could see the next-gen Skoda Superb and Octavia combined into a single model. This strategic shift comes as buyer interest in traditional sedans and estates continues to decline globally, prompting leadership to rethink the future line-up.

Why Skoda is combining the models

Sales numbers over the decades show that the Octavia has moved nearly 8 million units across its 30-year tenure, while the flagship Superb has reached over 1.6 million units since 2001. With the Octavia leading its segment since 2016 and offering close practicality, the manufacturer is questioning the need to maintain two separate nameplates into the next generation. The upcoming SSP architecture provides enough flexibility to cater to Superb dimensions within a single consolidated footprint.

The Vision O concept previewed in 2025 gives a clear look at how Skoda might merge these offerings into an electric estate measuring 4,850mm long. This vehicle sits right between the current Octavia Combi at 4,698mm and the Superb Combi at 4,902mm in overall length. Buyers should watch for the following details regarding this upcoming vehicle:
