MotoGP Aragon GP: Marc Marquez cuts Martin’s lead to 19 points

Marc Marquez has cut Jorge Martin’s championship advantage to 19 points after winning the Aragon GP, recovering from an early mistake to take control of the race. For MotoGP followers in India, the bigger talking point is how quickly the championship picture has tightened, with Marco Bezzecchi also staying close after another podium.

Marquez recovers after Turn 1

Marquez attacked Turn 1 at the start but accidentally left the rear ride-height device engaged, which cost him positions. Bezzecchi took the lead while Martin moved ahead of Marquez as well, giving Aprilia the first two places on the opening lap.

Marquez responded immediately, passing Martin by the end of Lap 1. He then closed rapidly on Bezzecchi, with the gap almost gone by Lap 5.

Acosta joins the lead fight

The race then became a three-way battle between Marquez, Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta. Marquez passed Bezzecchi down the straight, but Acosta went around the outside and took the lead straight back.

Martin still leads the standings

Martin leaves Aragon with the championship lead despite finishing fifth, while Marquez moves into second and sits 19 points behind him. Bezzecchi is third overall after adding two podium finishes across the Aragon weekend.

The result also came with an early setback for Francesco Bagnaia, who crashed out of the race. Further down the order, Fermin Aldeguer finished sixth, Fabio Di Giannantonio seventh and Enea Bastianini eighth.
