MG Cyberster BaaS price and ownership costs for Indian buyers

MG has added Battery-as-a-Service to the Cyberster and M9, changing how buyers pay for these premium EVs. The vehicle price is lower upfront under BaaS, but battery usage becomes a separate per-kilometre cost, with charging still paid separately.

MG Cyberster BaaS ownership cost

The Cyberster was previously sold as a conventional EV, with MG Select listing it from ₹82.49 lakh ex-showroom. The BaaS model reduces the initial acquisition cost, but the battery expense moves into a usage-linked payment structure instead. That makes the final ownership cost more dependent on how much the car is driven.

For the Cyberster, this matters because it is a two-seat electric roadster rather than a high-running family car. Its claimed range is up to 580 km. A buyer doing very low annual kilometres will have a very different BaaS equation from someone using the car regularly, and the battery payment needs to be added to charging and normal ownership expenses before comparing it with the conventional purchase route.

What changes in the monthly calculation

• Insurance and resale still need to be considered separately

The important number is therefore not just the amount needed to buy the car. Before deciding, a Cyberster buyer needs to estimate their likely annual distance and work out what the per-kilometre battery charge adds up to over a full year of ownership.

MG M9 BaaS makes a different case

The M9 is also getting BaaS, and its use case is quite different from the Cyberster. It is a premium electric MPV aimed at chauffeur-driven owners, luxury families and business or fleet users. MG lists the M9 from ₹79.94 lakh ex-showroom under its conventional pricing.

For an M9 buyer with predictable, higher running, a per-kilometre battery charge may be easier to factor into operating costs. The Cyberster, with its lifestyle-focused two-seat format, may require more careful attention to the total cost over the period of ownership. Both cars are sold through MG's premium Select retail network.
