KTM has inaugurated a new CKD assembly plant in Manaus, Brazil, designed to produce up to 20,000 motorcycles each year. The facility will handle ten different KTM and Husqvarna models, supporting the brand’s push to strengthen its presence in South America. This move comes as KTM’s dealer network in Brazil aims to reach thirty outlets by the end of next year.

Plant capacity and output

The plant operates as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit, importing major components and completing final assembly on site.

With a target of twenty thousand units annually, the factory adds a significant volume to KTM’s global output.

Local labour and logistics are expected to benefit from the new setup.

The factory will source components from existing KTM suppliers, reducing lead times for finished bikes. This approach also allows the company to respond faster to regional demand shifts.

Models to be assembled

The assembly line will accommodate ten distinct models from the KTM and Husqvarna portfolios, covering street, off‑road and naked‑bike segments.

While the exact nameplates have not been disclosed, the range includes popular entries that are already sold in other markets.

By assembling locally, KTM aims to reduce transportation costs and improve availability of spare parts for the Brazilian market. The move also aligns with the brand’s strategy to increase production flexibility across continents.

  • Unpacking and verification of CKD kits
  • Frame, engine and suspension mounting
  • Electrical wiring, fuel system and control installation
  • Final quality checks, road testing and packaging

Dealer network expansion

KTM’s Brazilian dealer network is set to grow from its current count to thirty outlets by the close of next year.

The expansion will accompany the local production, making spare parts and after‑sales service more accessible.

Buyers in India watching the brand’s global moves may see quicker availability of future models that are produced in Brazil, should the brand decide to export them. The plant’s output could also influence future pricing strategies for entry‑level offerings.

What impact will this new plant have on KTM’s pricing and availability for Indian riders?
