Tata Nexon EV BaaS cuts upfront cost by Rs 5.35 lakh

Tata Motors has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service option beyond the Tiago EV and Punch EV. Buyers can now choose BaaS for the Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Sierra EV and Harrier EV as well, giving the full six-model Tata EV range a separate battery-financing option.

What each Tata EV saves

The upfront reduction varies by model, so the saving is more significant on the larger EVs. The scheme brings the entry price down by different amounts rather than applying one fixed discount across the range.

How Tata BaaS payments work

With BaaS, the car and battery are financed separately instead of putting the entire battery cost into the vehicle purchase. The battery EMI changes according to the battery size, down payment and loan tenure, so the lower upfront figure does not mean the battery is included at no extra cost.

The battery payment also does not cover charging, maintenance, repairs or other running expenses. Tata's quoted BaaS figures are based on entry-level variants for personal users and an assumed 60km daily running, while the Tiago EV calculation uses 44km. Road tax, insurance, government levies and TCS are also outside those figures.

Is buying the battery still an option?

Yes. Tata is keeping the conventional purchase route where the battery cost is included in the vehicle price. BaaS is an alternative financing structure for buyers who want to reduce the initial amount they need to pay for the car.

For someone comparing a Tata EV this month, the important number is therefore not just the lower entry price. The separate battery EMI and the ownership costs outside that payment need to be considered together.
