Porsche has revealed the Mission S concept, giving a first look at a possible new mid‑engined sports car that would sit above the 911 in the lineup. The study shows a fresh platform meant to host various combustion‑based powertrains, though no production date, power figures or price have been confirmed. For Indian buyers who follow Porsche’s moves, the concept hints at where the brand might head next.

Exterior design cues from Porsche history

The concept carries a low front end with rounded headlamps and front fenders that rise above the bonnet, giving a muscular stance. Slim LED daytime running lights run along the edges, while a roof‑mounted air intake and sculpted side panels help airflow.

At the rear, slim split tail‑lamps flank an active rear wing that can retract when extra downforce isn’t needed. A large diffuser and a cooling fan sit above the engine bay, borrowing the 917’s cooling idea. Design touches also reference the 959 roofline, the 911 GT1 rear shape and the 928’s telephone‑dial wheels. Porsche says the raised fenders help drivers judge the front‑wheel position and outer edges.

Cabin blends analogue and digital controls

Inside, the Mission S draws from the 550 Spyder and 356, using white, grey and red trim with continuous lines across the dashboard and doors. Behind the wheel sit five circular gauges, including an analogue rev counter, while digital screens in the cluster change their layout according to the selected drive mode.

Physical buttons, switches and push‑pull controls manage driving and comfort functions, and a redesigned Sport Chrono unit mixes analogue and digital readouts. Instead of a fixed touchscreen or a separate passenger display, Porsche added a retractable MagSafe‑compatible smartphone holder for navigation, with the My Porsche app letting owners tweak the digital instrument graphics.

Platform ready for combustion hybrid options

Porsche chairman Michael Leiters explained that the new architecture is being built to support a long‑term addition to the range, capable of housing internal combustion engines, conventional hybrids and plug‑in hybrids. He ruled out a pure electric powertrain for this model, citing the current lack of EV demand in the high‑performance sports‑car niche.

  • Mid‑engined layout positioned above the 911
  • Flexible architecture for petrol, hybrid and plug‑in hybrid units
  • No all‑electric variant planned for this platform at present
  • Production timeline, specs and price still undisclosed
  • Concept hints at future model but final design may differ

What do you think Porsche should call this future model if it reaches showrooms?
