Tesla Roadster launch date: what the October 1 reveal means

Tesla has finally put a firm date on the production-spec Roadster reveal, with the car scheduled to be unveiled on October 1, 2026 in Waco, Texas. For Indian performance-car buyers, this is mainly a watch-and-wait story for now because the production car is not yet on sale and Tesla has not confirmed Indian launch details here.

Tesla Roadster design details

The latest teaser gives a clearer look at the rear than we have had before. The production version appears to get a large rear wing and full-width LED tail-lights, making it look more aggressive than the Roadster concept first shown in November 2017.

The teaser also shows four horizontally arranged nozzles at the rear. These are linked to the proposed SpaceX option package, which Elon Musk has previously described as using rocket thrusters to improve acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering. Tesla has not yet clarified how much of this system will make production.

Roadster performance claims

The original Roadster concept was presented with some very ambitious numbers, but these should not be treated as confirmed production specifications until Tesla provides the final details.

• Claimed range was 620 miles, or about 998km
• Claimed top speed was above 250mph, or 402kph
• Claimed 0-60mph time was 1.9 seconds
• Musk previously mentioned 1.1 seconds with the SpaceX package

Why October 1 matters

The timing is important because the Roadster has already missed an earlier promised launch window. In November 2025, Tesla said the car would launch in April 2026, but that date passed without the production launch. Tesla is now inviting people who reserved the car to attend the Waco unveiling, so October 1 should give us a much better idea of what has actually made it from concept to production.

For Indian buyers, I would wait for the production specifications, final pricing and any India plans rather than reading too much into the old concept figures. The reveal should answer whether the dramatic rear design and promised performance technology are really part of the final car.
