Tata Aeris launch date may be September 25 with new name

Tata’s compact sedan currently sold as the Tigor could get a new identity with the name Aeris, with September 25 being reported as the launch date. The change matters mainly to buyers considering a compact sedan this month, because this looks like more than a routine cosmetic update.

New identity for updated Tigor?

The TATA AERIS name has been filed as a trademark for land vehicles and parts, although its use on the upcoming sedan is not officially confirmed yet. The updated car is expected to move away from the current Tigor identity if Tata goes ahead with the Aeris name.

The exterior changes shown in earlier design patent images include slimmer headlamps, a glossy black connecting element and a more upright front. The bumper, wheels, rear lamps and rear bumper are also expected to get revisions while the basic sedan shape remains familiar.

Tiago-inspired cabin updates

The cabin is expected to borrow several changes from the updated Tiago. The possible additions listed for the Aeris include:

• 10.25-inch touchscreen
• Updated digital instrument cluster
• Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
• Wireless phone charging
• 360-degree camera

Six airbags, Type-C charging ports and electrically folding mirrors have also been mentioned, but the final equipment list is still awaited. That makes the actual variant-wise equipment an important thing to check when Tata officially opens the car for sale.

Petrol and CNG powertrains expected

The existing 1.2-litre petrol and factory-fitted CNG setup are expected to continue. The petrol engine is listed at 86 PS and 113 Nm, while the CNG mode produces 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm, with five-speed manual and AMT options expected to remain.

An electric version called Aeris.ev is also planned. For now, there is no confirmed specification for that version in the available material, so buyers should wait for Tata to announce the final details rather than assuming the expected features will carry across every version.

Tigor sales remain under pressure

The current Tigor has been doing around 1,000 units a month, while the Honda Amaze is around 4,000, Hyundai Aura around 6,000 to 7,000 and Maruti Dzire around 18,000 to 20,000. A fresh name and updated equipment could therefore give Tata a different starting point in the compact sedan market.
