Citroen has just showcased the 2 CV Concept at the Paris Motor Show, bringing back an iconic nameplate 78 years after the original vehicle debuted in 1948. This new concept previews a small electric hatchback scheduled for a global release in 2028 with an expected starting price of 15,000 euros.
Positioning of the Citroen 2 CV concept
The production-ready version arriving in 2028 will fit into Citroen's global line-up right between the Ami quadricycle and the C3 hatchback. Measuring 3.76 metres in length, the concept is actually shorter than the original car. The brand is targeting a total vehicle weight of under 1 tonne to make the most of a cost-effective battery pack designed specifically for daily commuting needs and low maintenance running costs.
Design highlights and retro styling elements
The exterior styling relies heavily on circular motifs and takes clear cues from the vintage model while adding modern touches. You get LED headlamps framed by semi-circular DRL signatures, a blanked-off front grille carrying the Citroen chevron badge, and a distinct ridge pattern on the bonnet. The windscreen carries the inscribed numbers 48, 90 and 26 to mark the launch year of 1948, the end of production in 1990, and the debut of this new concept in 2026. The profile reveals a curved roofline flowing into the rear, gloss-black rounded wheel arches, and C-pillar-mounted turn indicators.
Interior layout and quirky cabin features
- The minimalist cabin completely skips a traditional dashboard and centre console to maximize the feeling of space
- A single cylindrical structure holds the single-spoke steering wheel, control lever, and an 8-inch touchscreen featuring comic book graphics
- Seating consists of tartan yellow bench-type seats paired with a lively white and yellow interior colour theme
- Floor mats, door panels, and the dashboard use a fabric finish inspired by cane basketry alongside straps used for door handles
Wheels and technology integrations
The vehicle rides on 18-inch steel wheels inspired by the older 2 CV design, paired with tyres featuring Michelin branding and the Citroen chevron pattern. Michelin has also integrated a universal digital twin tyre technology that helps the car continuously monitor conditions and adapt to the road environment. Practical touches include a fabric sunroof, a detachable Radioen unit that functions as a portable speaker, and rabbit and tortoise engravings on the accelerator and brake pedals.
