Volkswagen Mission Efficiency: The XL1 Formula Goes Electric!

Volkswagen has unveiled a near-production electric concept called the Mission Efficiency, which uses familiar Volkswagen hardware but gets a very different body based on the ID. Polo and ID. Cross. The vehicle is longer, lower, and more aerodynamic than a regular hatchback. Key specifications of the Mission Efficiency include a 54.9kWh net battery, a 99kW electric motor producing 135PS and up to 264Nm of torque, and a claimed range of up to 821km. The car also features a low drag coefficient of 0.158 and a compact frontal area of 2.08 square metres. The Mission Efficiency has a 2+2 seating layout, 481-litre luggage space, and a lightweight interior with smartphone or tablet-based display setup. It also features a 370W photovoltaic system that can add up to 30km of real-world range per day. The car's aerodynamic design allows it to consume over 30 percent less energy at highway speeds compared to a standard ID.
