Suzuki Aims To Reduce Car Weight By 100 Kgs – Without Compromising Safety

Suzuki has outlined a plan to reduce the weight of its cars by 100 kg without compromising safety. The company aims to achieve this by making changes to vehicle structures, materials, and components, as well as developing lighter CNG cylinders. The proposed changes will cover various aspects of the vehicle, including vehicle architecture, powertrains, electrical systems, and individual components. Suzuki is also studying the potential to reduce weight by up to 120 kg. The company plans to use high-tensile steel in its vehicles, allowing for thinner sections where possible, and will also review even small components, such as the head size of an M8 bolt, to accumulate small savings. For Indian buyers, the potential benefits of Suzuki's lightweight engineering programme include more efficient everyday cars and CNG models with fewer compromises in weight and luggage space. The programme is expected to be implemented by 2030. The proposed CNG cylinder is expected to weigh around 20 kg, a saving of approximately 40 kg from the current steel cylinder weighing around 60 kg.
