Mahindra XEV 9S, XEV 9e Now Get Battery-as-a-Service Plan
Mahindra has extended its Battery-as-a-Service option to the XEV 9S and XEV 9e electric SUVs, letting buyers pay separately for the vehicle and the battery instead of one bundled price. The plan was already offered on other Mahindra EVs, and now covers these two as well, dropping the upfront cost on both cars by a noticeable margin.
What BaaS Means For These EVs
Under BaaS, the car is billed without the battery pack, and the battery itself is covered through a monthly rental instead of being paid for in full at the time of purchase. It is aimed at buyers who want a lower on-road price and are fine carrying an ongoing EMI for the battery portion of the car for as long as they own it.
XEV 9S And XEV 9e BaaS Prices

Is BaaS The Better Way To Buy?
A lower showroom price helps buyers who are stretched on the down payment or loan eligibility, but the battery EMI runs for as long as the plan lasts, so the total outgo over the ownership period needs to be worked out before signing up rather than after. It is worth asking the dealership how the plan affects resale value, loan structuring and warranty terms compared to buying the battery outright with the car.
Should You Pick BaaS Over Outright Purchase?
Buyers who plan to keep the car for several years and put on high monthly running may find that owning the battery outright works out cheaper over time, while those who want to keep the initial outlay down, or who upgrade cars often, are the ones this plan is built for. Either way, the choice now sits with the buyer rather than being locked in at the showroom.
