Freelander 8 Survives Rollover Crash Test – SUV Still Drives, Climbs Hill, Arrives At Launch Event

A Freelander 8 SUV was subjected to a severe rollover crash test and still managed to drive under its own power and climb a steep hill. The SUV, which is available in Pro, Max, and Max+ trims, measures 5,118 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm and ground clearance of 220 mm. The Freelander 8 is priced from 309,900 yuan for the Pro 5-seat model, with prices increasing to 349,900 yuan for the Max 5-seat model and 389,900 yuan for the Max+ 5-seat model. The SUV has a kerb weight of 2,980 kg and comes equipped with a dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering. The Freelander 8 is powered by an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) setup, which includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 60.3 kWh LFP battery, providing a claimed electric-only range of 310 km under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The SUV can tow up to 2,000 kg and has a claimed turning radius of 5.15 metres.
